Flatford　Mill　（フラットフォード・ミル）

East Berghortのメインストリートをさらに2マイルほど東にいくと、Flatford millへ達することができます。
今はNational Trustに指定されているFlatford millは英国各地からホリデイで訪れる人であふれています。それにしてもコンスタブルの大作、傑作のほとんどが、この周辺ほぼ半径500m以内から見た風景なのですから驚きです。なんの変哲もないようなイギリスの田園風景がコンスタブルの手によって芸術作品へと昇華し、人々を魅了し、その描かれた土地を訪れる人が年々後を絶たないのです。

After passing mainstreet of East Berghort for two miles towards east, you can reach Flatford mill.
This place appointed to National trust now have a full of holiday tourists coming from all parts of England.
The fact that most of the great works of Constable was come from this area makes me suprising.
Constable had made this tupical English landescape to eternal art works.

Boat-building near Flatford mill












フラットフォードの造船所は、長年地面に埋もれていたのですが、後年発掘されて現在のような形で残されることになりました。
土台となる木の駆逐加減が200年あまりの歴史の流れを感じさせます。
コンスタブルの絵にある背景の小高い木々もその後、造船のために伐採されたのでしょう。現在はそこには低木が茂っています。

Flatford boat-builing place was abondaned just after Constable made the picture. But now it was found and now you can see it like this.
Trees in Constable's picture might be cut down for abother boat building.
Now only small trees occupys that place.
