A Grave (墓)
最後に、私はコンスタブルの眠るロンドンのハムステッドにある聖ヨハネ教会にいきました。
ハムステッドのとある教会に勝手に車を乗り入れ、うろ覚えへの知識で町を歩きます。何人かの人に教会の場所を尋ねましたが、どれも違う教会でした。（なぜ西洋人は知らないときに知らないといえずに、適当な答えをしたがるのだろう？）。
最後に買い物にいくためでしょうか家からちょうどでてきた老夫人に場所を聞いたところ、きちんと教えてもらうことができました。

いくつかの通りをぬけていくと、赤いレンガでできた小さな教会が現われました。
そして教会の裏手には100m四方のお墓が広がっていました。その本当に隅の方に彼の最愛なる妻と葬られた墓があったのです。だれにもさわられないように鉄格子がはめられた墓には夏草が生え放題というありさまでした。
生前、イギリスでは彼の作品は20枚しか売れず、フランスで人気を博した彼でしたが、「金持ちのよそ者でいるよりも貧乏人でいたい。」との言葉通りに故国でその人生を全うすることになったのです。
私は墓の前でしばらく手をあわせ、その場を去りました。

Finally, I went to St. John church in Hampstead to see John Constable’s cemetery.
I parked my car in yard of a small church, and started to look for the church. I asked several people where the church but all of them answered me wrong place. (Why Western people cannot say “I do not know” when they are asked the thing they do not know?)
Finally, An old lady just came out from her house for shopping could advise me exact place of the church.
Passing a couple of streets, there are small church built with red bricks. It has cemetery of 100 squire meters backside.
In very corner of the cemetery, there was a grave of John Constable.
A grave was surrounded by iron grid and summer grass was growing around there.
Only around 20 pictures were sold in England in his lifetime. But he refuse to go to France in order to promote his works. He said "I would rather be a poor man [in England] than a rich man abroad."
