序章　８月２０日を盛大に祝う人、８月２０日を盛大に祝う国

８月２０日は、我が家にとっては、一大イベントの日である。何かというと家内の誕生日なのだ。
ここ数年家内の誕生日のイベントは大きくなりコストがかかってきている。（それに反比例するかのように私の誕生日イベントは縮小されているが）
たしか始めは、横浜港のディナークルーズだった。これが年々大がかりになってきて、昨年は２泊３日のパリ旅行にまで発展している。こういうエスカレートしていくイベントというのは、財布を預かる人間にとっては、恐怖でしかない。

さて、今年２００７年である、なんとか地元の高級レストランですまそうという私の目論見に関係なく６月のある日、彼女は私の目の前に一冊の本をおいた。

「ハンガリー“千年王国”への旅」


ハンガリー？？

彼女が日経新聞のアンケートに答えたら、抽選で旅行ガイドブックがあたったとのことである。特に彼女がハンガリーを指定したのではなく、勝手に新聞社が選んでおくってきたものらしい。それまで彼女はハンガリーという国の存在も知らなかったと思う。

ということでハンガリー行きが安易に決定される。

それで旅程をたてていくと問題の８月２０日はハンガリーでは、ハンガリー建国の父、聖イシュテバンの日ということで休日だということがわかった。

なるほど、そこで“繋がってる”わけね・・・。

世の中に偶然なんてありゃしない。

Introduction: People who celebrate 20th August, Country that celebrate 20th August

For my family, 20th August is the special day. Because it is my wife’s birthday.
Recent years, event for this celebration day is getting bigger and bigger, and the cost for the event is getting higher and higher. (On the contrary, my birthday event is getting smaller, almost nothing now)
From the beginnings, it was dinner-cruse in Yokohama port, then last year, we had a trip to Paris for three days.

Then, this year, year 2007. what’s going on my family?
One day of June, my wife passed me one book titled “Journey to Hungary, thousand years kingdom”.

Hungary????

She’s got this book by chance. The other day she answered to a questionnaire through web for a newspaper company, they send this book for return. She did not appoint this book, just they sent it at random. Before she got this book, I bet she did not know Hungary.

Anyway, Hungary tour has been decided.

On the process for itinerary making, I found that 20th August is bank holiday in Hungary. That is the day of St. Stephen, the founder of the country.
