遥かなるトスカーナ、静かなるコートダジュール (10)

ニースからイタリア国境まではほんの数十キロのところである。
イタリアとの国境付近から非常に山がちな地形になり、道はトンネルと橋が連続するようになる。助手席から眼下をみると、小さな村が地中海に張り付く様に点在しているのがわかる。

国境を越えてイタリアに入ると急に道が片側三車線から片側二車線になり、速度制限も130kmから110kmくらいに落ちる。道幅も若干狭くなっているので運転していて緊張感が漂う。この道路はどことなく日本の高速道路を思い出させる。

山間部には家が点在するとともに、ビニールハウスがあちこちで見ることができる。ビニールハウスというのは、日本だけのものじゃないんだね。

Italian border is less than 100km away from Nice. Close to the border, it become hilly and many tunnels and bridges you have to pass by. Looking down from the road, you can see small villages are scattering along with Mediterranean beach.
Crossing the border the road became three lines to two lines and speed limit becomes from 130km /h to 110km/h. As the width of one lane also is getting narrower, you have to drive with care. This road makes me remind Japanese motorway.
You can see vinyled house in the mountain. That house is not only in Japan.

ところで、フランスではカーナビが20kmおきくらいに「車両速度探知機」の存在を警告していたがそれがパッタリ警告しなくなる。イタリアには「車両速度探知機」がないのか、あるいは非常に少ないかのどちらかだろう。結局周りの流れに合わせるような形で速度をキープする。

それにしても、晴れた日にトンネルと橋を交互に通る、しかも山間なのでカーブが多い。これはドライバーの目の疲労を増加させるものだ。こんな道が国境付近からジェノバ（Genova）を過ぎるまで約250km延々と続いている。

我々は国境を越えてすぐのところで給油をし、軽い食事をとる。

ここで始めて気づく。ここはフランス語もスペイン語も英語も通じないところなんだと。


By the way, when we drove in France, car navigation system alert us speed limit, but when we go into Italy, it stops completely. I wonder Italy do not have speed camera in motorway. Anyway, we drove carefully not to have too much speed.

It is shinning day. To drive the road having many tunnels and many curbs hurts driver’s eyes. This tough road remains until Genova, 250km far away from here.

We make a brief stop at gas station and have a quick meal.
Then, we noted here was a place you could not communicate in English, French, nor Spanish…



スペイン語と英語を微妙に組み合わせながらメチャクチャな会話をし、なんとかコーヒーとクロワッサンを注文する。

コーヒーの呼び方も違ってくるので、要注意だ。スタバではスタンダードになっているカプチーノとかカフェラテといった言いかたがイタリアでは幅を利かせることになる。というか、スタバがイタリア風の言い方をとりいれたわけね。

とにかく、カフェオレ（フランス語）だとかカフェ・コン・レチェ（スペイン語）なんて言い方をしても首をかしげられるだけです。はい。

We tried very hard to communicate with waiter in order to get coffee and croissants. Coffee is also called different name. You cannot order with “Café o-lait” or “Cafe con leche” that is very popular in French and Spanish countries, but “Café latte” or “Cappucino” which is now the most popular name of the coffee in the starbucks world.
